Help Stefanie Fight Leukemia

My sister Stefanie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia Monday morning. What was supposed to be a simple ER visit to check her shoulder for a rota tor cuff( from helping a patient of hers during work) quickly turned for the worst. Within a few hours of being in the ER... We were told she has Leukaemia. This specific leukaemia is a very aggressive blood cancer. Her platelets went from normally around 367,000 to 19,000 Monday morning. Things started moving very fast from there. She was quickly transported to the oncology dept Monday afternoon. By Monday evening the blast cells(cancer cells) had already consumed most of her body and Stef was in extreme pain and having extreme nausea. Tuesday was filled with many different tests to prep her for chemo. By Wednesday morning her platelets dropped to 8,000 and she needed a platelet transfusion. They then transferred her to a cancer centre that specialises in this cancer. By Wednesday night she started first round of chemo. 48 hrs. In about 48 hrs Stefanie and her families lives changed forever. She will need to stay at the hospital minimum 4 woks for daily chemotherapy. This is only step 1. From what we understand there will be 4 steps of these treatments... Potentially lasting a year or so. This chemotherapy is very intense because of the fast growing cancer. Stefanie has been a nurse for almost 12 years.. She has saved so many lives and has cared for thousands of people. S

Larry Henke

We were saddened to learn of the loss of a member of our service. Lawrence Hearken died on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at home. He was employed as a paramedic for Atlantic Care in Morris-town and formerly for Capital Health in Trenton and Virtue in Mount Laurel. He previously worked in Virginia for the Richmond Ambulance Authority and Nu-care Carolina. He was a 2007 graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School, and he was a member of the Sayreville First Aid Squad and the West Point, Virginia Fire Department.

He leaves behind a son, Lawrence Hearken, IV; a daughter, Colleen Marie Henke; and his wife, Tiffany Harvey Hearken.

Larry was a truly genuine and caring person who could be counted on whenever someone needed help. His untimely death has left two small children without their father and a family with no means to pay for funeral expenses. We believe the EMS community will rise up to support one of our own in this time of need.

This just breaks our heart. 😢
